A Jewish professor at Columbia University who has been outspoken in his criticism of the administration’s handling of the continuing student demonstrations against Israel said on Monday that he has been denied access to the main campus of the university.

As he swiped his key card at Columbia Business School’s Morningside Heights campus, Israeli-born assistant professor Shai Davidai—an outspoken supporter of the Jewish state—saw the message “deactivated,” which prompted a throng of pro-Israel demonstrators to yell, “Let him in!” and “Shame!”

“I am not permitted to enter the main campus.” But consider the irony: [Columbia Chief Operating Officer Cas Holloway] just informed me that I will be allowed to lecture tomorrow on the campus of the business school,” he said to a group of pro-Israel rallies near the school’s gate on Monday.

According to Davidai, he may still visit the Manhattanville campus on West 130th Street using his identification as a business school instructor.

“If you have a Columbia ID, I ask that you enter, capture movies, but do not interact. If they refuse to let you in, you should record that they are also refusing to let other Jews onto campus, he said.
